Former CAN president Jay Kumar Nath Shah passes away

KATHMANDU, September 6: The former president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Jay Kumar Nath Shah, passed away this morning at the age of 89 years. The longest serving president of CAN also served as the vice-president of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the past.

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The former president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Jay Kumar Nath Shah, passed away this morning at the age of 89 years. The longest serving president of CAN also served as the vice-president of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the past.



Shah was battling with heart disease for quite some time. He was admitted to Norvic Hospital, Thapathali last week as he suffered a head injury after he stumbled at his home. He passed away this morning as confirmed by the doctors of Norvic.



He served CAN for 40 years from 1966 AD to 2006 AD and was felicitated with a Lifetime Service award by the International Cricket Council (ICC) under the Best Cricket Promotional Program in 2003. CAN also received the annual award for Development Program by the ICC during his tenure in 2003.



The current skipper of Nepal national cricket team Paras Khadka posted on his Facebook profile, "One of the pioneers of Nepal Cricket Mr.Jay Kumar Nath Shah has passed away this morning.Heartfelt condolence and prayers to the whole family. May his soul rest in peace!"



The former captain of Nepal and current head coach of Nepal U-19 national cricket team Binod Das shared his gratitude on facebook, "Rest In Peace Jay sir. Thank you for all your contributions to Nepal Cricket. Nepal Cricket, forever, will be thankful for your leadership."
