Free TB screening in eight wards of KMC

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Tuberculosis testing has been done free of charge in eight wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The Japan Tuberculosis Prevention Organization organized a two-day free tuberculosis (TB) health camp in collaboration with the Japan Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Organization and the local ward offices.

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Tuberculosis testing has been done free of charge in eight wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The Japan Tuberculosis Prevention Organization organized a two-day free tuberculosis (TB) health camp in collaboration with the Japan Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Organization and the local ward offices.


The organization conducted free tuberculosis screening in wards 6, 7, 10, 15, 16, 18, 26 and 32 of KMC. DN Sharma, program coordinator of Japan Tuberculosis Prevention Organization, said that the program was conducted targeting the most populated wards of KMC.

The organization, which was established with the aim of providing health treatment to tuberculosis patients who are hidden in society, aims at providing tuberculosis screening free of charge in all wards of KMC, in the coming days.


According to Sharma, the main objective of the organization is to create a tuberculosis-free society by diagnosing and treating people suffering from tuberculosis. Similarly, the Japan-Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Institute has been working in the field of tuberculosis in 11 districts across Nepal.


The organization has been working in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavrepalanchok, Dhading, Chitwan and Makwanpur of Bagmati Province as well as Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja and Nawalpur of Gandaki Province.
