Fugitive arrested after six years

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Police on Sunday arrested a kidnapping and murder convict who had been absconding for the nearly past six years. He was convicted by Jhapa District Court on the charge of kidnapping and murder, and was slapped a jail-term of 17 years.

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Police on Sunday arrested a kidnapping and murder convict who had been absconding for the nearly past six years. He was convicted by Jhapa District Court on the charge of kidnapping and murder, and was slapped a jail-term of 17 years.


A team of police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Naresh Meche, 38, a resident of Mechi Municipality in Jhapa, from Hotel Kathmandu Inn at Gongabu in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-29.

According to police, Meche was convicted by the Jhapa Court on July 5, 2016, on the charge of kidnapping and holding captive Sunil Kumar Agrawal, a resident of Birtamod Municipality-6 of Jhapa district. 


Issuing a press statement, CIB said that Agrawal was held captive by Meche and Bajranga Pansari at a house belonging to Harka Bahadur Kanda in Jhapa district. “While the police were rescuing the captive, a clash erupted between the kidnappers and police personnel. A police officer was also injured in the clash,” according to CIB.


The arrested has been sent to the District Police Office, Jhapa, for further action.
