KATHMANDU, JULY 11: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has covered some parts of the transfer station at Teku with plastic by spraying bacteria in the garbage as the garbage could not be transported at full capacity after the roads were damaged due to rainfall.
Sarita Rai, head of the environment department, said that the garbage was covered since adding the garbage collected in the city to the transfer station would increase the visibility and stench. "This is a temporary arrangement," she said, “The problem will be solved when the road to the landfill site gets better.”
Waste at Teku transfer station to be managed in two days
The transfer station operated in Teku is on 1.95 hectares of land. Out of this, 1.5 hectares of land is used for the operation of vehicles for waste management. The vehicles coming out from here for garbage collection and transportation are taken out only after they are washed with water. The metropolis is trying to reduce the negative impact of garbage by creating green gardens in the rest of the area.
