General Election 2022: Candidates can withdraw their names today

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assemblies can withdraw their candidacies today.

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assemblies can withdraw their candidacies today. 


As per the election schedule released by the Election Commission, the candidates contesting under the first-past-the-post (FTPT) system for HoR and provincial assembly constituencies could withdraw their candidacies from 10 AM to 1 PM by visiting the offices of the Chief Returning Officers and Offices of the Returning Officers by the candidates themselves or by their representatives.

The final list of the candidates will then be published from 1 AM to 3 PM on October 12 and the election symbols will be provided to the candidates from 4 PM on Wednesday itself. 


The EC has already established 165 election officers with 77 chief returning officers and 88 returning officers for the election to be held on November 20. 


For the HoR, a total of 2,291 men and 235 women candidates are vying for the 165 seats. 


Likewise, altogether 3,476 candidates including 297 men and one ‘other’ are contesting for 330 seats under the first-past-the-post electoral system for the provincial assemblies.
