KATHMANDU, March 25: Two persons have been arrested for abducting girls, holding them hostage for nine days and raping in the Rukum East. Two persons have been arrested for abducting two 14-year-old and 15-year-old girls from Bhume Rural Municipality of the district and taking them hostage, police said.
One of the girls had gone to the district headquarters, Rukumkot from her home on March 14. Her relatives had lodged a complaint with the police on Monday after she did not come into contact even after nine days.
According to Lumbini Provincial Police Chief DIG Rabindra Dhanuk, Narayan Shrestha, 23, and a 14-year-old boy were arrested on the basis of a tip-off that a girl was being held hostage at a house located in Sisne Rural Municipality of the district.

DIG Dhanuk said that the accused was arrested and the girl was rescued within 24 hours after receiving the news of the girl's disappearance. According to the police, the girl was rescued in a critical condition after being held hostage and raped.
According to DIG Dhanuk, the two accused used to take the girl to the toilet every day at 5 am to defecate and then keep her locked in the room for the whole day. He said that the accused had admitted that he had threatened to kill the girls if they cried or shouted inside the room.
DIG Dhanuk said the district court has extended the time limit by registering a case of abduction, hostage-taking and raping. He said that they would spare no efforts to provide justice to the victims and take action against the culprits involved.
Chief of the District Police Office, DSP Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha said the investigation has revealed that the girl had been raped since the day she was abducted and was held hostage in the room.
