Govt employee fined Rs 15,000 for violating RTI Act

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: The National Information Commission (NIC) has fined chief administrative officer of Siraha Municipality, Baliram Yadav, Rs 15,000 for violating the right to information (RTI) Act.

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: The National Information Commission (NIC) has fined chief administrative officer of Siraha Municipality, Baliram Yadav, Rs 15,000 for violating the right to information (RTI) Act. 


The quasi-judicial body fined Yadav, reasoning that he had refused giving information to the information requester, Parashuram Saha, as per the RTI Act. Chief Administrative Officer Yadav not only denied information but also ignored the directive from NIC.

Information to this was shared by Information Commissioner Ratna Prasad Mainali in a press release. 


The RTI Act has given the right to the citizens to seek information of his/her and public concern from public agencies.
