12,711 drivers fined for violating traffic rules in a week in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: A campaign against violation of traffic rules has been intensified in Kathmandu Valley. Traffic police have taken action against 12,711 drivers from different areas of the valley within a week.

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: A campaign against violation of traffic rules has been intensified in Kathmandu Valley. Traffic police have taken action against 12,711 drivers from different areas of the valley within a week.


According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, they were fined during the action campaign conducted from October 26 to November 2. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajendra Prasad Bhatta said that police teams have been mobilized in three districts of Kathmandu Valley, namely Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

SSP Bhatta said that the campaign has been intensified in view of the potential risk of increased number of accidents as result of the violation of traffic rules and driving recklessly during the festival.


SSP Bhatta further revealed that, within the last 24 hours, an additional 2,218 drivers were apprehended. Among them, 300 were caught exceeding speed limits, while 152 were prosecuted for straying from their respective lanes. Notably, 86 drivers faced legal action for operating vehicles under the influence of intoxicants.


According to police, there are more accidents in the valley when the vehicle is driven at high speed. Therefore, action has been taken by installing automatic cameras in various areas of the ring road of the valley and taking action to measure the speed, while the speed control process is continuing by deploying a police team at various places.


Similarly, the head of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Posharaj Pokharel, said that action is being taken against those violating traffic rules as a part of the campaign.
