KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The health workers and staffers working for the government must take permission by March 13 if they want to work in the private hospitals, clinics, firms and organizations.
According to the Ministry of Health, they can work in private hospitals without adversely affecting their government jobs.
“All the health workers working for the government must take permission to work in the private sector,” said the officials at the MoH.

Meanwhile, the private health institutions will also need to seek permission from the ministry before employing government health workers including doctors and nurses. “If they were found employing government doctors and health workers without permission from the ministry, the private institutions will face legal action and their license will not be renewed,” says the working procedure formulated by the MoH.
The working procedure was approved by the cabinet on Thursday.
The new rule has also provisioned overtime bonuses of up to 50 percent of the total salary of the doctors, nurses and health workers in a bid to deliver effective and qualitative services to the people, said Health Minister Gagan Thapa.
The Health Service Act, Clause 2, mentions that the government staffers should be present regularly in the office and sign the attendance register, and cannot take leave without permission.
The new rule states that health workers are required to work from 8 am to 5 pm, including two hours of overtime from 3 pm to 5 pm, according to the ministry.
