KATHMANDU, May 10: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government was responsible for the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Deuba said that the inauguration of Dharahara amid fanfare two weeks ago was one example of an irresponsible act of the government. He also alleged that the government was also involved in corruption even in the procurement of essential medical supplies such as vaccines to fight against the pandemic.
Deuba said that Prime Minister Oli was responsible to delay the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccine to benefit some business enterprises close to the government. While reminding the statements of the prime minister that no one will have to die untimely because of lack of medicine, Deuba asked, “Are those dying untimely due to lack of medical supplies, not Nepalis? Where did your commitment go?”
Deuba alleged that the government had failed to make necessary arrangements to provide adequate oxygen, ICUs, and ventilators to help people fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He further alleged that the government was involved in self-praise rather than working for the cause of people.
On the occasion, Deuba also made a list of unconstitutional works done by the government led by Oli. Arguing that the Oli-led government had tried to undermine democratic norms and values in the past three years, Deuba announced to cast vote against Oli’s trust motion.
