Health Ministry reports seven coronavirus-related deaths in past 24 hours, taking Nepal's COVID-19 death count to 164

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported seven more coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 death count to 164.

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported seven more coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 death count to 164.


At a daily media briefing, spokesperson for the MoHP Jageshwar Gautam said six men and a woman succumbed to novel coronavirus disease across the country in this period.


Two men, aged 74 and 66, and a woman, aged 71, from Kathmandu and a 68-year-old man from Parsa, a 22-year-old man from Siraha, a 76-year-old man from Dhanusha and another 53-year-old man Rupandehi died of COVID-19.


"With this, the country's coronavirus-related death toll has risen to 164," Spokesperson Gautam said.

During the daily media briefing, Gautam shared that as many as 855 persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across the country in the past 24 hours. Of the total 11,327 PCR tests carried out at various labs in this period, 855 new cases were detected, he said.


"With new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, the country's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 33,533," Gautam said.


313 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery from various isolation centers and health institutions across the country in the past 24 hours, the spokesperson said.


"As of today, 19,119 persons who earlier tested positive for the virus have been discharged after recovery," Spokesperson Gautam said.


The Kathmandu Valley has witnessed steep rise in the number of COVID-19 in recent weeks. Spokesperson Gautam said that the Valley alone reported 232 cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, which is the highest number of cases recorded on one day in the Valley so far.
