Hearing on fake Bhutanese refugee case underway at Patan High Court

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A hearing is underway at the Patan High Court on the petitions filed by former ministers Bal Krishna Khand and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, and others who have been accused of involvement in the fake refugee scam, seeking release from prison.

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A hearing is underway at the Patan High Court on the petitions filed by former ministers Bal Krishna Khand and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, and others who have been accused of involvement in the fake refugee scam, seeking release from prison.


Earlier, the accused who have been incarcerated in connection with the scam approached the Patan High Court demanding that the District Court's order to send them to prison be overturned and the case be moved forward by releasing them from prison on their own recognizance.

The bench of judges Janak Pandey and Prakash Kharel is hearing all the petitions.


Former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former home minister Bal Krishna Khand, Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, Sanu Bhandari, Angtawa Sherpa, Dr Indrajit Rai, Hari Bhakta Maharjan, Laxmi Maharjan, Sandesh Sharma, Shamsher Mia, Ashish Budhathoki, Govinda Chaudhary, Tanka Kumar Gurung, Teknath Rijal, Sagar Rai, Ram Sharan KC, and Keshab Tuladhar filed writ petitions at the Patan High Court.


The Patan High Court will hear their petitions and make a decision whether to uphold the order of the District Court’s order, release them on bail or release them on their own recognizance.
