KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal government on Sunday decided to extend its ban on all international commercial passenger flights until April 15 as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A High-Level Government Coordination Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel made a decision to this effect today. Earlier last week, the government had imposed the ban on all international flights from March 22 to 31.

Likewise, the committee has recommended the government to extend nationwide lockdown for few more days to curb the spread of COVID-19.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers is likely to take the decision as recommended by the committee. It is reported that the lockdown is likely to be extended by another week.

With this, the lockdown will remain until April 8.

The committee has also urged the government to launch immediate relief package to address the concerns of needy people.

Earlier, the government had decided to enforce a week-long nationwide lockdown on March 23 to be implemented by the following day.

Similarly, the Nepalese stranded on the no man's land along Nepal-India border will be allowed to enter Nepal saying that they are facing difficulties to stay there. Provincial governments and local level will have to look after them.

Nepal Rastra Banak will have to send necessary money to students abroad through their families. They will be rescued once the situation turns normal.
