In response to a question asked by MP Jeevan Pariyar in the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Dahal said that the government is effortful to solve the problems of cooperatives which have turned problematic but have not yet been declared problematic.

"The government has become more serious about this matter, and the process of forming a high-level investigation committee to identify the problematic cooperatives on the basis of complaints from across the country has been initiated," he said.

“The government will declare cooperatives as problematic upon the recommendation of the Department of Cooperatives and the work of asset management and liability payment (including the return of savings) will be carried out," Prime Minister Dahal said.

The constitution has adopted a three-pillar economic policy under which cooperatives form an important pillar, added the prime minister.

He said that all the cooperatives are not problematic.

"Many cooperative organizations have helped to raise the standard of living and economic development through the cooperative movement within the established international values of cooperatives," he said, "I expect similar positive contributions in the coming days as well."

He said that although there is a numerical growth of cooperatives, there are some deficiencies in the qualitative development.
