BANEPA, April 21: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi has warned that anyone attempting to foil the upcoming local elections will be subjected to punishment.
“As per reports submitted by 11 districts of the Central Region, the security management is reliable. But if someone attempts to foil the election, stern action will be taken against them,” said DPM Nidhi while speaking at the Central Regional Security Conference organized in Dhulikhel on Friday.

He further requested chief of security agencies and participants present in the conference to provide security to election candidates, voters, and ensure safety of election materials.
With the elections slated for May 14 now just 22 days away, Home Minister Nidhi stated that the election will be held on the scheduled date. He also indicated progress in discussions with the agitating UDMF. “Along with that, we also requested the main opposition CPN-UML to be flexible for the elections.”
Stating that the government will leave no stone unturned to secure the election environment, Minister Nidhi said he will take proper care of the security personnel who will be deployed for the elections. “Please be brave and dedicated to provide security. The Central Security Committee will protect you,” he said.
According to Shambhu Koirala, administrator of the Central Region, discussions regarding crime control, cross-border crimes and social crimes were held in the conference.
