HoR dissolution case: Pleading on behalf of govt continues

KATHMANDU, June 30: Government attorneys are scheduled to plead on behalf of the government on the House of Representatives (HoR) dissolution case on Wednesday as well.

KATHMANDU, June 30: Government attorneys are scheduled to plead on behalf of the government on the House of Representatives (HoR) dissolution case on Wednesday as well.


Attorney General Ramesh Badal initiated pleading on behalf of the defendants on Monday.


Deputy Attorney General Gopal Prasad Rijal will be pleading for 15 minutes on the constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra  SJB Rana, senior justices Dipak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Anand Mohan Bhattarai today. He will be analyzing if the Prime Minister can or cannot stake his/her claim to the post after he/she fails to garner a trust vote from parliament.

Likewise, Deputy Attorney Generals Sanjeeb Raj Regmi, Lok Raj Parajuli, Khem Raj Gyawali, Udpa Prasad Pudasaini are scheduled to plead for 30,15, 10 and 10 minutes representing the government respectively.


The Supreme Court has given 15 hours to the defendants to make their case. Of the given time, Attorney General Badal pleaded for around 3 hours and 20 minutes on Tuesday.


Once the pleading of the office of Attorney General concludes, PM Oli’s personal lawyers will be given time to plead on behalf of the PM.


The pleading on behalf of a writ petition filed by 146 lawmakers including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba completed on Sunday.


Once the pleading on behalf of the defendants concludes, advocates of the house speaker will be given one hour time to make their arguments. Afterwards, the petitioners will answer. Then, pleading for amicus curiae will begin.


The apex court will then pass its verdict on the case.
