KATHMANDU, June 8: Lawmakers have brought the government's attention to the hardships faced by the people of Terai-Madhes due to the scorching heat experienced in recent days. Heatwaves and soaring temperatures have severely affected the lives of people, especially in the Tarai region. The issue was raised during today's meeting of the House of Representatives, where lawmakers highlighted the additional challenges posed by irregular electricity supply.
During the zero hour, Pradip Paudel demanded that the government take effective short and long-term measures to alleviate the situation caused by the extreme heat, referring to the rising temperatures that have reached as high as 44 degrees Celsius.
Narayani Sharma called for the government to address the management of drinking water, healthcare, and education for the residents of the bordering areas with Dang district.
Demand for fixing the size of local bodies
Prabhu Sah drew the government's attention to providing compensation to farmers whose crops have been destroyed by wild animals.
Similarly, Basanta Kumar Nembang requested the government to take steps to contain the spread of lumpy skin disease, while Bina Devi urged the swift resumption of a sugar mill in Rautahat. Binita Kathayat emphasized the need for the government to address the demand of Nepali people in Portugal to establish a Nepali embassy there.
Meanwhile, the excessive heat in Dang district has led to the drying up of wells, causing a shortage of drinking water. "Water taps have been dry since the third week of May. Water scarcity is increasing this year, and it appears that a severe water shortage is imminent," said Madan Gautam from Ghorahi-9. Local residents have particularly noticed water scarcity in wards 6, 8, 9, and 10 of Ghorahi.
