KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Local farmers of Pokhari Danda at Ramkot of Nagarjun Municipality were seen busy picking Marigold on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Local farmers of Pokhari Danda at Ramkot of Nagarjun Municipality were seen busy picking Marigold on Thursday.


Marigold is widely used for making garlands during the Tihar festival.

Garlands of marigolds hold a huge cultural significance during this festival as sisters put flower garlands around their brothers’ necks during Bhai Tika.


People also decorate their houses with flowers, especially marigold.


Tihar, also known as Yamapanchak is observed for five days. All five days require flowers to perform various rituals ranging from worshipping crows, dogs, cows to offering to the brothers by their sisters.
