POKHARA, June 15: Incessant rainfall for the past few days has triggered floods in  Manang district, inundating most houses at Taalgaun of Naso Rural Municipality on Tuesday.

According to Bishnu Lamichhane, chief district officer (CDO) of Manang, Taalgaun on the bank of the Marshyangdi River of Naso Rural Municipality-1 is at high risk of floods. Likewise, Chame Rural Municipality has also suffered some destruction because of the flood. “The flood has swept away pipelines at Chame Mini-hydropower,” said CDO Lamichhane. “Likewise, the flood has also swept away a power house at Timang and a post office at Chame.”

Police have taken the locals of Taalgaun to a safe location. There are about 60 houses at Taalgaon and all these houses were inundated by the flood, according to Lamichhane. “We are doing our best to supply rescue equipment to Taalgaon despite the bad weather,” he added.

A landslide obstructed the flow of the Marshyangdi River which flooded the nearby villages, said Nara Bahadur Chand, the chief administrative officer at Chame Rural Municipality. “More than a dozen houses have suffered some kind of destruction in Chame.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister (CM) of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali has expressed grief over the incident and directed the local government to actively get involved in rescue and relief missions. “The provincial government will provide sufficient financial support for the local government to conduct rescue operations and distribute reliefs,” said CM Nepali.
