Infection rate increases in rural areas of Taplejung, 19 deaths recorded so far

TAPLEJUNG, June 3: The rate of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the rural villages of Taplejung district has spiked in the past few weeks, despite the decrease in infection rate in the urban areas of the country.

TAPLEJUNG, June 3: The rate of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the rural villages of Taplejung district has spiked in the past few weeks, despite the decrease in infection rate in the urban areas of the country. 


According to the district’s health office, 36 percent of the total number of infection cases in the district are still infected with COVID-19. Out of the 1,173 cases of infections recorded in the district, 757 have recovered so far. There are currently 416 active cases of COVID-19 in the district. 


Aathrai Rural Municipality holds the highest number of infections in the district with 171 active cases of COVID-19. As stated by the Public Health Officer Pratima Kharel, as many as 82 infected patients have recovered from the virus among the 253 cases of COVID-19 in the municipality.

According to the Health Office, the rate of infection has increased in Mikkwakhola and Phaktanglun Rural Municipality as well. There are currently 59 active cases of COVID-19 in Mikkwakhola Rural Municipality and 16 infected patients in Phaktanglun Rural Municipality. Also, 25 patients in Mikkwakhola and 26 patients in Phaktanglun Rural Municipality have recovered from the contagious disease.


Pathibhara Yangparak Rural Municipality has the lowest number of infections in the district. Out of 37 infection cases in the municipality, 36 people have recovered from the deadly virus. There is currently one active case of COVID-19 in the rural municipality. Similarly, there are 32 active cases of the infection in Maiwakhola Rural Municipality with 51 recoveries recorded so far. In Meringden Rural Municipality, 54 people have recovered from COVID-19 and it has 38 active cases at the moment. 


There are currently 47 active cases of COVID-19 in Sirijangha Rural Municipality. So far, 56 patients have recovered from the virus out of 103 infections in the rural municipality. Likewise, there are eight active cases of COVID-19 in Sidingwa Rural Municipality and six recoveries recorded so far. 


Furthermore, Taplejung district has recorded 19 deaths from the virus following the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 in April. Earlier, the health office had recorded 18 deaths from COVID-19 in the district. However, according to the details published by the District Administration Office, the death toll from the COVID-19 in the district is only 13. Also, based on the total number of infections, the mortality rate in Taplejung is 1.61 percent.
