Int’l Flora Expo starts Thursday

KATHMANDU, March 27: The Floriculture Association of Nepal (FAN) is organizing 3rd International Flora Expo in Kathmandu from March 30 to April 2.


The expo, which is being organized with the support of Ministry for Agricultural Development, aims at providing information and showcasing technology used in floriculture, the organizers said in a press meet on Sunday.

Different species of flowers, compost fertilizers, seeds, green house, agricultural equipment, and packaging materials, among others, will be exhibited at the expo. The expo will have a total of 99 stalls. According to the FAN, there will be 28 stalls of international exhibitors.


The organizers are also awarding floriculture entrepreneurs in 10 different categories.Dilip Badhe, senior vice president of FAN, said exhibitors from countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, South Korea, among others, are participating in the expo. 


According to the FAN, floriculture sector has been providing employment to more than 41,000 people directly or indirectly. The sector recorded transactions worth Rs 1.51 billion in the Fiscal Year 2015/2016.


The organizers are expecting around 65,000 visitors and transactions worth around Rs 7.5 million during the four-day expo.


Nepal imported flower and flower-related products worth Rs 60 million in 2015/16, according to FAN.
