JAJARKOT, Jan 11: While the influx of patients has increased in Jajarkot District Hospital due to cold, the hospital is facing a severe crisis of medicines. Patients visiting the hospital hardly get any free medicines provided by the government.

According to Bhupendra Prakash Malla, acting chief of the hospital, they are running low on medicine stocks. This has forced many patients to return empty handed without getting the service.

“We have not received the necessary supplies since about one-and-a-half months. Patients are suffering as a result,” he said.

Although the hospital has been upgraded to 50 beds, lack of infrastructure and capacity to handle the pressure have created problems to the service seekers. The hospital has been reeling under management crisis as well.

The chief position of the district hospital remains vacant. Malla said he is not officially appointed as the chief and is just acting chief. Likewise, not all the doctors deployed by the government have taken up their responsibilities at the hospital.

Out of the eight doctors in the hospital, only one of them is a specialist. None of these adheres to the quality of a 50-bed hospital. Civil society leaders and locals have criticized the government for upgrading the hospital to 50 beds just on papers.
