The local unit will be handing over contracts of extraction only after mid-July, according to Yam Bahadur Malla, Chairperson of Jaljala.

"Even the law has prohibited extraction of resources during monsoon. So, we decided to implement this effectively, "said Chairperson Malla. Those who are found extracting resources by using excavators, tippers, and tractors among other vehicles until the end of monsoon will be fined.

The rural municipality has announced a fine of Rs 60,000 for excavators, Rs 25,000 for tippers and Rs 15,000 for tractors. Reportedly, the fine will be increased if the decision of the local unit is ignored more than twice.

"Those disobeying the order of the local unit will be fined. However, the fine keeps increasing if a person or organization disobeys the decision more than once," said Arjun Sharma, chief administrative officer of Jaljala.

Not just that, the local unit will be seeking clarifications from the companies who are found extracting resources by breaching environmental impact evaluation report.
