Kalikot hospital put plaster cast on child's wrong hand

KALIKOT, June 15: In a case of sheer negligence, doctors at the District Hospital, Kalikot have put plaster cast on the left hand of a four-year-old child who had broken her right hand.

KALIKOT, June 15: In a case of sheer negligence, doctors at the District Hospital, Kalikot have put plaster cast on the left hand of a four-year-old child who had broken her right hand.


Daina Kumari Bam of Pachaljharna Rural Municipality had been taken to the emergency ward of the hospital with a broken right hand on Wednesday. Although the doctors x-rayed the hand and identified the fracture, they mistakenly put plaster cast on the wrong hand. "We had told them that our daughter had fractured her right hand," said Dhir Bahadur Bam, father of the victim.However, doctor Bigyan Parajapati who had examined the child said the child's father had told him that the fracture was on the left hand so he put the plaster cast on the left hand.

Prajapati also said that he did not read the x-ray report and trusted the father.


The hospital on Thursday removed the plaster cast from the left hand put a new cast on the right hand.Caption: Daina Kumari Bam, whose left hand was plastered instead of his right hand.
