BIRGUNJ, Jan 15: A hat-trick from captain Bharat Khawas propelled departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club to a 3-0 win over Jana Jagriti Simara Club in the ongoing second Tuborg Bishal Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament in Birgunj on Monday.

Khawas scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute converting a pass from the midfield in a game that looked really competitive in the opening period. Khawas scored his brace just two minutes into the second half, which pushed the losing side to play defensive football.

The Army captain completed his treble from the spot after Simara skipper Sunil Raut fouled him inside the box in the 79th minute.

Khawas was adjudged the man of the match for his performance.

Army head coach Nabin Neupane said that the team came to the match with a motivation to win the tournament again as it had also won the first edition. He also added that the players have improved the quality of their game in recent times.

Simara head coach Sonu Chhetri said that his team's performance was weak as it gave chances to the local players rather than the foreign players. He further added that his team wanted to at least hold Army for a draw, but the mistakes from the referee saw his side fail to do so.

Jhapa XI and India’s Siliguri Club will take on each other on Tuesday.
