KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started removing unauthorized identification boards (name boards, sign boards) from today. Boards that meet the standards but have not paid fees and are larger than the specified size are to be removed by the metropolis.

The metropolis issued a 30-day public notice on September 23 and requested all concerned to pay tax for keeping such boards.

"From today, we are removing the hoarding boards of those who have not regularized within the specified time frame," said Shivraj Adhikari, head of the revenue department. He said, “We have reminded the team that they should be careful while removing the boards. It is necessary for common people to know about this issue.”

“All boards with a size of more than 30 square feet will be removed. The names of the sponsors should also be within the permitted size. Boards within the standard can be placed after paying the said revenue,” he said.

The board up to 30 sq.ft should be registered in ward offices. Along with this, graffiti, unauthorized leaflets, pamphlets and posters will be removed, according to the metropolis.

The size of the board and the annual fee charged for it were also mentioned in the public notice related to the board management. According to the Financial Act of the Metropolis 2079 BS, an annual fee of Rs 500 will be charged for a notice board of up to 6 square feet. Similarly, for up to 15 square feet, Rs 1,500 will be charged for between 15 and 30 square feet, the rate is Rs 1,000 per square feet.

According to KMC, no such board above the size of 30 square feet can be placed.

Meanwhile, KMC has also started removing tree branches obstructing high tension lines (high voltage transmission lines) passing through the National City Hall up to Padmodaya Mode.

According to the KMC, after the request of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the Juddha Barun Yantra office (fire brigade authority) of the KMC has mobilized manpower and equipment to remove the branches in coordination with the NEA. Moreover, the cut branches were managed using the vehicles of the Department of Environment and Agriculture.
