SINDHUPALCHOWK, Aug 15: The death toll in a massive landslide at Golche Lidi of Jugal Rural Municipality-2 has reached 12 with one more dead body recovered from the landslide debris. Twenty seven others are still missing in the landslide.
The dead body of a male was recovered earlier on Saturday. However, his identity is yet to be ascertained, according to the police.
Lidi landslide death toll reaches 37, two still missing
Eleven dead bodies were found on Friday. They were cremated on Saturday morning following their identification. According to the Information Officer at the District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, Madhav Prasad Kafle, the dead bodies of seven children, two males and females each were handed over to their families after legal formalities.
The deceased identified as Tikamaya Dong (36), Tshering Dong (14), Jite Jhakri (80), Milan Dong (8), Sanu Dong (5), Jaya Bahadur Dong (70), Dawa Lhamu Dong (30) and her two daughters - Priti Dong (5) and five-month-old Tara Lhamu Dong - Dhanmaya Tamang Dong (34) and her four-month-old son Remish Dong were cremated as per the Buddhist rituals, said a local Prem Dong.
The massive landslide on Friday morning buried as many as 37 houses leaving 39 locals missing in the debris. A joint team of personnel from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police has been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations.
Province govt to rebuild settlement
Meanwhile, chief minister of Bagmati Province, Dormani Poudel, has assured the victims of the Lidi landslide of rebuilding their houses. Poudel who reached the landslide site earlier today with relief materials committed to setting up a separate settlement for the landslide victims.
