Man absconding after ‘rape attempt’

TIKAPUR, Jan 1: Prem Shahi, 30, of Tikapur Municipality-5, Nuklipur, reached a minor girl’s house at 5:30 in the evening on December 30 last year to buy bananas.

TIKAPUR, Jan 1: Prem Shahi, 30, of Tikapur Municipality-5, Nuklipur, reached a minor girl’s house at 5:30 in the evening on December 30 last year to buy bananas.


The family of the girl sent her along with Shahi to show him the farm. According to relatives, Shahi tried to rape the girl at the farm.


The family of the girl said that Shahi is somebody who regularly visits them to buy bananas.

“He is a regular visitor and calls the girl ‘daughter’. Even she used to call him uncle,” he said, “We couldn’t believe he would  do this.”


The girl’s family members found out about the incident when the girl screamed when Shahi tried to rape her in the farm. It is said that Shahi ran away after seeing the girl's mother.


An tempt to rape case has been registered against Shahi at the Area Police Office, Tikapur. Shahi is absconding now. The police said a search is on. Deputy Superintendent of Police Hem Shahi said that the search for him has been intensified.


Shahi is in the business of making banana chips.
