Man shot dead in Rupandehi

BUTWAL, Sept 16: Motorcycle-borne unidentified gunmen shot a person dead in Butwal of Rupandehi district on Sunday.

BUTWAL, Sept 16: Motorcycle-borne unidentified gunmen shot a person dead in Butwal of Rupandehi district on Sunday. 


Mahendra Kurmi, 35, who hails from Rohini Rural Municipality of Rupandehi died on the spot, said Superintendent of Police (SP), Hridaya Thapa, police chief in the district.  


SP Thapa said the unknown group fired at Kurmi when he was returning home after withdrawing money from the Bhairahawa-based Himalayan Bank. Kurmi had collected Rs 500,000 from the bank. The motorcycle-borne two persons had followed Kurmi when he was returning home on his motorcycle. They ran away after looting the money.

Police were unable to arrest them. An investigation into the killing, according to the Rupandehi District Police, is underway. 


The dead body has been taken to Bhim Hospital for a postmortem. 


Meanwhile, Rohini Rural Municipality has demanded stern action against those involved in killing an innocent person. 


Issuing a press statement, rural municipality chief Sanoj Kumar Yadav said that the killing of an innocent man in broad daylight has raised serious question about the government's commitment to maintain law and order in the country. 


“The rural municipality demands that those involved in killing an innocent man be identified and punished for their crime to discourage such incidents in the days to come,” reads a press statement issued by rural municipality chief Yadav.
