BUTWAL, Dec 22: Hundreds of people participated in the funeral procession of Durga Tiwari on Wednesday, two days  after the Rupandehi District Chairman of UML-aligned Youth Federation of Nepal (YFN) was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants.

Tiwari's post-mortem was performed at Lumbini Zonal Hospital on Wednesday, following which the funeral procession was organized from Pushpa Lal Park to Chauraha. Tiwari was cremated in the evening. Participants in the procession chanted slogans demanding the arrest of those involved in the murder.

Addressing the procession, leaders of the main opposition party UML demanded arrest of the culprits at the earliest. “It is not a coincidence that Tiwari was murdered when the protests against the border delineation of Province 5 reached the peak. If the government cannot assure of arresting the culprits, it is meaningless for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi to stay in power,” said Bishnu Poudel, deputy general secretary of the UML.

YFN Chairman Rajeeb Pahari has demanded Tiwari to be declared a martyr. Butwal has remained tense since Tiwari's murder.
