MYAGDI, Oct 19: Minister for Health Gagan Thapa has said that the government is willing to accept all the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who has long been demanding reforms in the medical education sector and has staged nine fast-unto-deaths so far to press for his demands.

Minister Thapa, who was in Myagdi for the inauguration of Myagdi district hospital's pharmacy and for handing over a general anesthesia machine, said that the current government has given priority to Dr KC's demands unlike the previous government.

“The present government acknowledges the necessity of a separate Act for the health sector,” said Minister Thapa.

Speaking at the function in Myagdi on Tuesday, Thapa assured that the government is ready to work with Dr KC to bring transparency in the country's medical sector.

“It will take some time, but the government will fulfill his demands considering the welfare of the mass,” said Thapa. “As soon as the bill is passed, all of his demands will be fulfilled,” he added.

Speaking of his duties as the health minister, he said that he strives for a better health sector in Nepal and therefore, agrees with many of Dr KC's visions.

“Our people will not have access to quality health services unless we make changes and improve our health sectors. I will be raising this issue until it gets through,” he added.

Thapa said that the government is putting all efforts to provide holistic medical service to the people, so that no one has to go abroad for medical treatment.

Decrying the luxurious foreign medical trips of the president and other government officials, Thapa said, “We strive to make standard medical facilities accessible in Nepal so that no one is left untreated due to poverty and inaccessibility,” said Thapa.

Since Myagdi District Hospital has received permission to have 50 beds for its inpatients, the health department has agreed to provide necessary support and aid to the hospital.

Also present at the function were accommodation committee's member duo Nawraj Sharma and Reshma Bahadur Baniya. The contributions of Jims Simons and Marilyn Simons to the health sector of Nepal were given due recognition during the function.
