KATHMANDU, Feb 25: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has summoned a meeting of its office-bearers this afternoon to discuss the evolving political situation after the Supreme Court reinstated the House of Representatives.

The meeting which was scheduled for 3PM at the Budhanilkantha-based residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, is expected to begin shortly and will discuss the party's future strategies in the aftermath of the restoration of parliament. Bhanu Deuba, an aide to President Deuba, told Republica that the meeting will begin shortly. “Party leaders have started turning up here. The meeting will begin shortly,” he said.

According to party leaders, the meeting will dwell on the possibility of a power sharing deal with various parties as the Oli-led government is under immense pressure to step down following the apex court's verdict to overturn the government's decision to dissolve parliament.

The meeting is expected to discuss proposals from both factions of the NCP to install the new government with the support of the Nepali Congress.

Earlier on Wednesday, chairpersons of the Dahal-Nepal faction of NCP, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal floated the proposal of forming a coalition government involving the Nepali Congress during a meeting with Nepali Congress President Deuba.

A majority of NC leaders including Gagan Thapa are not in favor of forming the new government under their party's leadership or extending support to other parties to install the government. However, NC President Deuba is in a mood to install a new government if there is an understanding to form a new government under his own leadership, according to a source close to the NC.
