NC lawmakers demand new govt under Deuba's leadership

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers have demanded the formation of a new government under the leadership of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.


The newly-elected people's representatives from the NC met President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence in Baluwatar on Saturday and demanded the formation of a new government under his own leadership, according to lawmaker Chanda Chaudhari. They argued that NC must lead the new government as it has emerged as the largest party in the House of Representatives.

In response, PM Deuba said he took their demand seriously and would inform them as things unfold in the course of negotiations with other parties.


President Bidya Devi Bhandari has given a week-long deadline to stake claim for the post of prime minister. The deadline is expiring on Sunday.


The Nepali Congress emerged the largest party by securing 89 seats in the House of Representatives.
