KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker from the Karnali Province, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has asked the Chinese government to produce evidence to prove that it has not encroached upon Nepali territory.

Issuing a press release on Thursday, NC leader Shahi said that he and his party are concerned over a news report run by China’s Global Times.

Shahi said that he is ready to face any action if the allegations leveled against him by the newspaper are proven true.

In a recent news report, the Global Times newspaper accused Shahi and his party of being involved in anti-Chinese activities by raising issues of alleged border encroachment.

Amid media reports of alleged border encroachment by China, a Shahi-led team comprising local Nepali Congress leaders had visited bordering areas to take stock of the situation. The team concluded that China has encroached upon the Nepali territory in Lolongjom, Humla.

“Our report on border encroachment by China was based on facts,” he said.

Shahi also accused the Nepal government of surrendering to the Chinese government on the issue of safeguarding sovereign Nepali territory.
