KATHMANDU, May 24: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has proposed a new Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Parliamentary Probe Committee to be formed to investigate the misuse and embezzlement of cooperative funds. A meeting of the task force has been adjourned for a while after the representatives of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) sought time to hold discussions with Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane , who is also the chairman of the RSP.

UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula said that in the task force meeting held on Friday, the NC decided to put forward a new proposal about mentioning the name of the cooperative linked to Home Minister Lamichhane, if not himself.

He said, “We have to discuss this with the Home Minister, so we have stopped the meeting for a while.”

The NC has been blocking parliament continuously demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the alleged involvement of the Home Minister in the misappropriation of cooperative funds. The major parties which agreed to form the committee formed a task force to draw up the committee’s mandate. The ruling parties had proposed a mandate to investigate the entire cooperative frauds, while the NC said that the investigation had stopped after Lamichhane became the home minister, therefore, his name should be mentioned in the mandate.
