KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Following the humiliating defeat of the party in the recently held provincial assembly and parliamentary polls, youth leaders of Nepali Congress (NC) have launched separate campaigns to bring reforms in the party organization.

A group of leaders led by NC Central leader Nabindra Raj Joshi launched a campaign called “NC with effective ideology and strong organization”, while the gathering of another group of youth leaders led by Chandra Bhandari  has announced “Nepali Congress Renaissance Campaign”. NC youth leaders Gagan Thapa, Guru Raj Ghimire and Pradip Paudel, among others, were present in the gathering.

CWC member Joshi had presented a concept paper to revive the party as the largest party during a function organized in the capital. Among other things, he has pointed out the need to bring reforms in the organization, handing over the party leadership to second generation leaders, ensuring effective implementation of the party statute and attracting youths in the party organization. Joshi has also suggested forming shadow government to monitor the activities of the new government.

Leaders from all the factions that exist in the party were present in the function organized at the initiative of Joshi. Those present in his program included Gagan Thapa, Pradip Paudel, Dina Sangraula, Ram Krishna Yadav, Jivan Pariyar, Badri Pandey and Guru Raj Ghimire, among others.

Similarly, Bhandari-led group had announced to make NC popular and pro-people like it was back in 1951 and 1960. They have vowed to reform the NC's party organization to meet the need of the 21st century and develop the party that can lead the country to bring prosperity and economic development.

While demanding the party leadership to immediately summon the party's Mahasamiti meeting, they have also vowed to make the party's general convention effective and to present the NC as a strong opposition in the parliament for the next five years.

“We want to make it clear that this is not a gathering of any faction or sub-faction within the party. This is not aimed at any individual in the party. This is a campaign of members of those holding common resolution to bring reforms in the party,” they said.
