KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party have started a signature campaign demanding the sack for Nepal Telecommunication Authority Chairman Digambar Jha and other controversial appointees to important posts.
As of Saturday evening, over three dozen party leaders have signed an appeal to revoke controversial appointments.
Ram Chandra Jha, Bijaya Kumar Poudel, Sher Bahadur Tamang and Bijaya Kumar Poudel are among those who have initiated the signature campaign against the government led by their own party.

The campaigners argue that the party’s communist image has already been tarnished by the controversial appointments and it will be further tarnished if such appointments are not terminated immediately.
“The corrupt must go home. Our signature campaign is to cleanse the party image and improve governance,” said Niraj Acharya, who is participating in the campaign. Jha, who was once declared “incompetent” by Communication and Information Technology Minister Gokul Baskota and sacked, was appointed as NTA chairman after a gap of a few months.
The campaigners have urged the government to take action against government officials involved in corruption.
The signatures will be submitted to party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, urging him to remove the corrupt from government and not repeat the past mistake.
After becoming prime minister some nine months ago, Oli had vowed to drain the swamp. Under his direction, civil servants printed thousands of leaflets that were pasted up in government offices everywhere.
The pamphlets read, “I will not indulge in corruption nor tolerate corruption.”
But now Oli himself is under fire from party rank and file. In the ongoing Standing Committee meeting, party leaders are lambasting government leaders for their failure to combat corruption.
