According to Dhorai Mia, a 70-year-old local, the soldiers had beaten them when they were collecting fodder in the forest. He told Republica that the soldiers attacked nine women and one man and even took their sickles and axes that were used to cut the grass. “There was only one man in the group. While he suggested the army not to fight, he was kicked by the army with their boots on,” Mia complained.

Another local, Yadu Prasad Dhakal said that after the soldiers laid siege to the locals' forest, there was frequent dispute among locals and army. Dhakal said that even though the locals had gathered to fight against the army’s atrocities on Tuesday night, they agreed to resolve the matter through talks as the risk of COVID-19 and the controversy would not benefit anyone.
