The NFA has claimed that the film industry is already burdened with over 33 percent tax due to various levies, including value-added tax and corporate tax.

According to the NFA, there were 450 theaters across the country before the establishment of the Film Development Board. Currently, only 150 theaters are operating across the country.

General Secretary Maharjan stated that the film industry has collapsed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that the NFA has concluded that the business cannot be sustained due to the taxes imposed by the government.
