Nepal records 1090 new cases on Tuesday, highest single-day case number in past six months

KATHMANDU, August 9: COVID-19 cases in Nepal are rising rapidly with 1,090 new cases recorded across the country on Tuesday, according to the latest information released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

KATHMANDU, August 9: COVID-19 cases in Nepal are rising rapidly with 1,090 new cases recorded across the country on Tuesday, according to the latest information released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). This is the highest number of single-day cases in the past six months. As many as 438 recoveries and two deaths from the virus were recorded on the day. 


A total of 6,300 swab samples were tested for COVID-19 on the day. Of them, 560 out of 2,958 PCR and 530 out of 3342 antigen tests turned out to be positive for the virus.

There are currently 5,874 active cases of COVID-19 across the country. Among them, 5,593 are in self-isolation, 213 in institutional isolation, 61 in ICUs and seven on ventilators. So far, 11,974 people have died from the virus across the country.


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 397 cases of COVID-19 on the day. Among them, 304 were reported in Kathmandu, 72 in Lalitpur and 21 in Bhaktapur districts.
