KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The host Nepal’s United Taekwondo Dojang has become the team champions in both cadet and junior categories in the third Kathmandu International Takewondo Championship on Sunday.
At the Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA)’s Academy Hall at Satdobato, Lalitpur, United Dojang won six gold medals in cadet and three golds, one silver and three bronzes in junior category in men’s and women’s fights. With the win in both the men’s and women’s categories, United Dojang became the team champion.
In cadet, Surkhet District became second with three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze, while Lainchaur Dojang stood third with two golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
Likewise, in the junior category, Seetapaila Taekwondo Dojang became second with two golds and one silver, while Dilip Memorial Dojang stood third with two golds and one silver.

In the senior fight, two Indian teams got the top two spot, while Nepal’s Valley Division was limited to the third place. Nepal’s Puja Kunwar and Mahendra BK were adjudged the best players of the women and men cadet fights respectively.
Nepal’s Saroj Lama and Aayasha Lama were named the best players in junior men’s and women’s categories respectively, while India’s Narprit Singh and Australia’s Kantika Penketh were named the best players in senior men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Malaysia collected the highest seven golds in the individual, pair and team events and became first, while Nepal’s Jesis School and Maiti Nepal became second and third respectively. Jesis won three golds, two silvers and two bronzes, while Maiti Nepal accumulated three golds and two silvers.
Malaysia’s Anuwas Sarat in the men’s individual poomsae and Nur Idrina in the women’s category were selected as the best players. Likewise, in pair poomsae, Jesis’ Yowandan Dahal and Monika Magar were chosen as the best pair. In men’s team poomsae, Seetapaila Dojang became the best, while Syuchatar Dojang got the award in the women’s category.
In men’s senior U-80 kg fight, Nepal’s Bishnu Dahal won the gold medal defeating his compatriot John Raut, while India’s Aksh Kumar Jaint and Nepal’s Gokul Khatri became third.
In an entertaining men’s senior U-63 kg fight, Nepal’s Kapil Thapa saw off India’s Sharma Shumsher Singh 21-21 to win the gold, while Nepal’s Nabin KC and India’s Ramesh stood third.
In men’s senior U-74 kg, India’s Nawaprit Singh won the gold defeating his own countrymen Awijit Singh. Nepal’s Chitra Bahadur Adhikari and Kailash Tharu became third.
In senior men’s U-68 kg, India’s Sunil Kumar defeated Nepal’s Gyan Bahadur Shrestha to win the gold, while Nepal’s Kishan Khatri and Saroj Budhathoki stood third.
In senior men’s U-58 kg, Nepal’s Sagar Mringching won the gold defeating his compatriot Bikrant Dangol.
In the championship which started Friday, a total of 14 nations along with Nepal participated featuring a total of 865 players. A total of 650 players from all seven provinces competed in the tournament, while the other 215 athletes represented India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Macau, China, Australia, Germany, the United States, and Canada.
