Nepal wins team, pair events in Int’l Taekwondo Championship

KATHMANDU, May 20: Nepal has won the team and pair categories of the International Gyarogi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship on Saturday.

KATHMANDU, May 20: Nepal has won the team and pair categories of the International Gyarogi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship on Saturday. 


Syuchatar Taekwondo Dojang won three gold medals and three bronzes, Jaycees School won a gold and a silver medal and Sitapaila Taekwondo Dojang claimed a gold and two bronzes to help Nepal win. 


In the poomsae’s single category at the Covered Hall of the National Sports Council (NSC), Korea got the first place after it won three golds and one bronze, while Malaysia was second with three gold medals. Nepal’s Jaycees won a gold, a silver and a bronze.

In the poomsae’s pair category, Syuchatar got the first place with a gold and a bronze, while India came second with a gold and silver. Likewise, Nepal’s Koteshwar Taekwondo Dojang became third with a gold medal. India’s Devashis and Bijita Goswami were named the best pair. 


Also on the same day, in junior 51 kg category, Nepal’s Bikash Shrestha won the gold medal, while Mukesh Luitel claimed the silver. Likewise, Sohaib Akhtar and Dipesh Khatri won a bronze medal each. 


In 48 kg category, Nepal’s Prajwal Tamang became first, India’s Chandan got the second place, while Nepal’s Sadhu Praja and Arun Tamang stood third. 


In girls’ U-25 kg cadet category, Nepal’s Pushpa Wadi claimed the gold medal, while Karuna Dhungana won the silver medal. Likewise, Parisa Kunwar and Yojina Suithani got the bronze medals.


Also, in girls’ U-23 kg, Australia’s Sabrika Rayana won the gold medal, Nepal’s Melina Pagami got the silver medal, while India’s Tanuska Singh and Nepal’s Krishna Thapa claimed the bronze medals. 

A total of 250 women and 383 men players from 13 countries including Nepal took part in the tournament in 38 events.
