ILAM, August 26: Indian police have released a Nepali youth after 19 days in prison on condition that he would appear before the court on August 31.
Udaya Hang Fago of Ilam has been accused of assisting in the Gorkhaland protests.
However, the twenty-seven-year-old Fago of Suryadaya Municipality says he was arrested on August 7 when he was taking his mother to a hospital for treatment.
Fago said he was mentally tortured and interrogated on subjects that he did not know of. He was alleged of assaulting the police and helping Gorkha Janamukti Morcha in their protest against the police forces. He said that he was accused of being a Maoist supporting the Gorkhaland protest after showing his Nepali citizenship.
Fago was released after the local representatives of Ilam and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal pleaded for his release, according to ward chairperson of Suryadaya Municipalit-10, Pema Ugen Lama.
