Nine Valley firms fined Rs 85,000

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP) on Thursday slapped nine firms operating in the Kathmandu Valley with a total cash fine of Rs 85,000.

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP) on Thursday slapped nine firms operating in the Kathmandu Valley with a total cash fine of Rs 85,000.


According to the department, the firms were found breaching the law by not maintaining proper invoicing and not cooperating with the market monitoring team members deployed by the department. The business outlets that faced the government action include vegetable sellers, groceries, fish and meat sellers etc.

On Thursday, the DoCSCP conducted market inspections of 33 business firms. Of them, action was taken against nine. The department slapped cash fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 against the wrongdoers.  


Ananda Raj Pokharel, information officer at the DoCSCP, said the department has intensified market inspection as the main festivals of Hindus are round the corner.


Meanwhile, the department imposed a cash fine of Rs 300,000 against a retail shop operating in Panauti of Kavrepalanchok district. The outlet was found stocking around 40 sacks full of substandard rice ready for sale.
