NRB starts on-site investigation on singer Amatya’s land collateral scam

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has started on-site investigations on the land scam in which Kumari Bank has been accused of issuing loans against the counterfeit land ownership certificate.

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has started on-site investigations on the land scam in which Kumari Bank has been accused of issuing loans against the counterfeit land ownership certificate.


Kumari Bank has been accused of providing loans of Rs 190 million to the borrowers who produced fake ownership certificates of the land plots belonging to popular singer Yogeshwor Amatya. The high ranking officials of Kumar Bank in collusion with the land traders are charged for misappropriating the loan amount issued through the fake documents of Amatya’s 12 bigha land in Bishrampur of Bara district.

In connection with the scam, the police have arrested five accused including two staffers of Kumari Bank Sonu Thakur and Rajesh Chaurasiya and three real estate traders Kusan Pradhan, SK Maharjan and Muktilal Gautam. Similarly, four other accused that include Assistant Manager of Kumar Bank, Parsa and three real estate traders including Shova Shrestha are currently absconding.


NRB Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Pokharel said the central bank has sent its team for on-site investigations of the scam. “NRB will take actions against those found guilty in the case,” he said.


Meanwhile, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) that has been investigating the scam for the past three weeks is forwarding its investigation reports to the public attorney office on Sunday to file cases against the accused persons.
