KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Nepal Rastra Bank has started selling gold and silver coins (Asharfi) targeting Dhanteras and Laxmi Puja of Tihar--the festival of light that is just a few days away.
Dhanteras is the first day of the five-day-long Tihar festival, which falls on Tuesday. Since the day is considered to be auspicious to buy precious metals and utensils, many aspirants buy gold and silver on this day. According to NRB, it has been selling the gold and silver coins from its Mint Division at Babarmahal, Kathmandu.
NRB sells 43,000 gold and silver coins in five days
According to the NRB officials, the central bank has been selling the precious metal coins in various denominations including two grams, five grams and 10 grams. The NRB did not issue the gold and silver coins, which are considered 99.99 percent pure, last year citing the risk of the COVID-19 pandemic.
