One dies, 29 fall ill after mass feast in Lamjung

LAMJUNG, Dec 10: One person has died, and 29 others have fallen ill after a mass feast in Lamjung. Police Inspector Meghnath Chapagai of the District Police Office, Lamjung, stated that 32-year-old Devi Pariyar, originally from Benisahar Municipality-4 and currently residing in Sundarbazar Municipality-9, passed away this morning.

LAMJUNG, Dec 10: One person has died, and 29 others have fallen ill after a mass feast in Lamjung. Police Inspector Meghnath Chapagai of the District Police Office, Lamjung, stated that 32-year-old Devi Pariyar, originally from Benisahar Municipality-4 and currently residing in Sundarbazar Municipality-9, passed away this morning.


According to Police Inspector Chapagai, Pariyar had attended a Christmas party at the residence of Kshetra Bahadur Gurung in Sundarbazar Municipality-8 on Friday evening. Subsequently, she was taken to HDCS Model Community Hospital in Sundarbazar this morning after experiencing headache, fever, and intermittent diarrhea. Upon arrival at the hospital, the doctor pronounced her dead.

The hospital reports that 29 people, including the deceased Pariyar's husband Devu and 12-year-old daughter Bidya, are currently receiving treatment. Residents of Ward No. 8 and 9 of the same municipality who attended the feast started falling ill from Saturday and are being treated at the same hospital.


Police mention that a total of 40 people attended the party, where they consumed rice, black lentils, chicken, and radish pickle. More patients are continuing to arrive at the hospital, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
