KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The online labor permit recently launched by the Foreign Employment Office, Kathmandu has become effective.
Ramesh Aryal, chief of the office, informed Republica that around 1,000 service recipients have been benefiting through the online system daily. “Online labor permits have become effective during times of COVID-19 infection.” Earlier, various complaints were received while providing services in the physical presence of more than 1,000 service recipients and now the obligation of the employees to work till night has been eased.

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha has directed to make the work permit paperless. The office has asked service recipients to fill up the online form three days in advance as it takes time to check the documents online and sometimes there may be a problem with the internet server.
Stating that rumors have been spread regarding the online system that it would take more time and cost and there would be problems in matching e-passport, the office said that if the service recipient fills in the details correctly, the application will be sanctioned on the same day. For the labor permit, term life insurance and foreign employment welfare fees have to be paid through online service.
Hariram Nagila, information officer of the office, said that the term life insurance fee will be according to age and the fee for foreign employment welfare is Rs 1,500.
Including life insurance and welfare fund, the fee is only Rs 5,208 for people upto 35 years, Rs 6,431 for people aged 36 to 50 years and Rs 10,963 for 51 years and above. The office has urged all the service recipients not to pay the charges if they have to fill up the online form.
