KATHMANDU, July 21: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the House of Representatives has directed office bearers of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) to carry out their duty without being under pressure and for the welfare of service seekers.
The Committee in a discussion with chairperson and administrator of the Fund on Sunday also asked the Fund to stick to its principles in discharging work. On the occasion, lawmaker Dr Minendra Rijal questioned how the Fund will recover its investment in the Nepal Airlines Corporation in the context when the NAC is incurring a monthly loss of Rs 147 million? "NAC is suffering a big loss. How you (Fund) are aware of your investment risk. Whether the investment in the NAC was made under pressure?" he asked.

Some other lawmakers also asked why Rs 40 billion loan was provided to the NAC already having Rs 370 million worth of property? Pointing out that the tendency of leasing Kathmandu Mall without announcing tender would not benefit the Fund, lawmaker Prem Bahadur Ale drew its attention to calling tender for the Mall at the earliest. Responding the queries, Chairperson of the Fund Shishir Dhungana said that the Fund was aware of any misuse of the funds collected from its service seekers. Likewise, Fund administrator Tulasi Prasad Gautam said tender would be announced for the construction of the Fund's building in Sundhara.
