JANAKPUR, April 1: The death toll from the storm and lightning that devastated several villages in Bara and Parsa district has risen to at least to 28, district officials said on Monday morning.


Latest reports say that strong storm and lightning have killed at least 28 people and injured at least 400. Casualty is highest in Bara.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that 26 people were killed and 612 injured after the storm wreaked havoc. Of those injured, 270 returned home after treatment while 342 are undergoing treatment in hospitals at Birgunj and Kalaiya.  


The District Police Office, Parsa said that a person was killed while four others sustained injuries in the district. 


Likewise, an emergency meeting of the Provincial Government 2 is currently underway to discuss the situation after high-speed winds and lightning strikes that claimed at least 28 lives leaving over 600 injured in Bara and Parsa districts.
